Tripping the Dark Fantastic
By Stacey Flewelling
For Niv Karan

Shards of ice dig into the flesh
Like daggers in my eyes and my heart
Peeling each morsel of sanity
A light flickers, a flame burns
Within the confines of this soul

Waxing and waning spectrums of sanity
Running fast on the earth and in the sky
Leaping and darting into the sunset
Filled with magenta and blue skies
Chasing the warmth of the sun

Capture me, my love
Raise me into the moonlit skies
Push me forward, pull me back
For the sun has set in the lands
But a moon remains to illuminate

The moon races against time
Circling, charging, and pushing
Towards the rays of the sun
Needing its warmth, needing its love
Gripping onto stars as an energy source

A million horizons in the distance
A million truths remain shrouded
A million reasons to keep fighting
A million words to describe love
A million ways to keep going

Eclipsing the light and the moon
Fading to black and then to white
Pour the purest water found anywhere
Satisfy my emotions and my soul
And prevent us from tripping the dark fantastic...
A poem I wrote for my boyfriend.
